A Message from Rev. Telos
“Our challenge is to create a new language, even a new sense of what it is to be human. It is to transcend not only national limitations, but even our species isolation, to enter into the larger community of living species. This brings about a completely new sense of reality and value.” (Thomas Berry, “The Ecological Age,” in The Dream of the Earth, 42)
Dear ones,
I echo Thomas Berry’s call to create a new language, a new sense of what it is to be human. Our relationships with each other, transcending perceived differences, and our connection with the natural world can give us solace and strength, needed now more than ever. I am grateful to serve our congregation of seeking hearts, open minds and strengthening spirits as we navigate this challenging and changing time. Being part of a spiritual community that celebrates who we are, offers comfort and inspiration is even more vital in these times. Thank you for being willing to embark on the journey of possibly calling me as your settled minister, entering into a covenant and deepening our relationship. It is an honor to serve you, and I truly feel that I have come home in my ministry with All Souls.
This month holds several special events that I am excited that we are hosting – a Book Reading and Presentation on Saturday evening, October 4th with author Dena Rueb Romero and her historic memoir All For You, that chronicles her parents’ journey escaping Nazi Germany and arriving here. We are co-hosting this event with the Brattleboro Area Jewish Community, grateful to share our building as they hold their high Holy Days services here as they have for decades. We will have a Pizza and Games night, with mask-making together on Friday, October 17th – invite a friend of any age to come with you. And Emma’s Revolution returns for a Benefit Concert to support So VT 4 Palestine on Saturday, October 25th ! They are bold in leading protests and events, using their music to lift our spirits and strengthen our solidarity; grateful their songs will fill our sanctuary once again. And we will be able to offer assistance to our local organization supporting Palestinians in Gaza devastated by this ongoing war. These are challenging times. And these are times when we cannot turn away, when we need to come together and respond to any call for justice that we hear. As Unitarian Universalists, living into our values is what our faith calls us to do.
And, we need to remember to take care of ourselves and each other.
Blessings all, Rev. Telos
