“I have walked through many lives, some off them my own,” begins a poem called The Layers by Stanley Kunitz. Charles and Nancy Butterfield, like many octogenarians, are transitioning from the farmhouse they have occupied for nearly sixty years to a continuing care retirement community and waking up to their many lives in the process. Charles will relate their experiences to lines in the poem.
