Look For The Helpers

As is our usual practice on the first Sunday of the month, the Social and Environmental Action Committee will present today’s service, highlighting the community organization with which we’ll be sharing our Sunday offerings for the month. For May, we’ve decided on a special “encore” offering for the Groundworks Collaborative, in support of their extensive and courageous efforts in addressing the disproportionate effect of the COVID19 crisis on our neighbors whose housing and/or food source are insecure. Our guest speaker will be Josh Davis, Executive Director of Groundworks, who will tell us what they’re doing, and how we can help.

Look For the Helpers”

Gathering and Board Greeting

Prelude:   Variation 18 on a theme by Paganini, Sergei Rachmaninoff, played by Artur Rubenstein

Chalice Lighting: Rev. L.A. McCrae

Source of All that is Living,
As we gather this morning, mindful of the mystery of thresholds,
calm our uneasy and anxious spirits,
May we be open to the mystery and blessings of what awaits on the other side of great transition.
Allow love and light to penetrate places of fear, desperation, hopelessness, and despair.
Encourage our spirits and strengthen our connections so that we may be a threshold people.
Give us the certainty to walk with those who are standing at the thresholds of indecision, uncertainty, and doubt.
Provide for us the courage to speak truth to power.
May we continue to love, unapologetically.
Let this love carry us from indecision and doubt to peace and resolve.
Be with us now and always, holding us in the tender moments of growth.

Extinguishing the Chalice: by Amy Zucker Morgenstern

Blessed is the dark, in which our dreams stir and are revealed.
Blessed is the dark of earth, where seeds come to life.
Blessed are the depths of the ocean where no light shimmers: the womb of all earthly life.

Blessed is the light into which we awake,
the light that sparkles on the waters:
that calls the tree forth from the seed,
and calls the shadow forth from the tree.

Blessed are we as we move through darkness and through light.

Closing Circle: “Carry the Flame of peace and love until we meet again.” (sung twice)
